MSc in Computing, IT Law and Management

Computing, IT Law & Management Applications for the 2010/2011 Academic Session are now OPEN!

Aims and Programme Description

This programme is designed for graduates in Computer Science/IT who wish to combine further studies in Computer Science with one or two specialist modules in Management (Business Management for Scientists and Engineers, and either Project Management or Advanced Industrial Business Management) and specialist modules in the rapidly developing area of Legal Informatics (IT Law, Computer Forensics, Cybercrime, Applications of IT to Legal/Administrative domains). As regards their further studies in Computer Science, students may choose to focus primarily on issues in Computer Security, among several other possibilities.

Entry Requirements

Equivalent of a good 2nd class (normally 2:1) UK honours degree in Computer Science/IT is normally required. Entry qualifications may perhaps be lowered for students with substantial relevant work experience. Please refer to the English Language Requirements King's web-page to see what the academic and English requirements for this MSc programme are (note that the English requirements are stricter for this MSc programme than for all other Computer Science MSc programmes).

Part-time option

This programme is available for full-time study, ordinarily one year, and part-time study, ordinarily two years. Part-time students will still take eight modules over the two years (normally four modules per year), with the four compulsory moduels taken in the first year, and work on their individual project in the second year.

Applicants for part-time study must note, however, that:
  • The Department is NOT able to guarantee that modules will be taught in evening time-slots; modules may be held in the morning and/or in the afternoon/evening, throughout the week.
  • We are unable to adjust the timetable to meet the needs of individual part-time students; accordingly, we expect part-time students to adjust their own working hours to the programme's schedule.
  • If your employer is not able to offer a very flexible working schedule, you may be best advised not to apply for this programme.
  • As said above, we are unable to provide timetables before registration, due to late confirmations and last-minute changes that may occur in the first weeks of term.

Provisional General Structure

Please note that this is for reference only. Although we will do our best to keep this information up to date, we reserve the right to make changes if these become necessary for the academic year 2010/2011.

Timetables are not available to applicants prior to registration and, despite our best efforts, some optional modules may overlap and students may need to be flexible in their choices.

As well as working on the Individual Project, a full-time student takes a total of eight modules, normally four per term, according to the following schedule:
