Dr Nikolaos Boulgouris
Biography
Nikolaos V. Boulgouris is a Senior Lecturer with the Centre for Digital Signal Processing Research at King's College London. He joined King's College in December 2004. Before joining King's College he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Toronto, Canada. Dr. Boulgouris received the Diploma and the Ph.D. degrees from the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of the University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1997 and 2002, respectively. During his studies, he held teaching and research assistantship positions and participated in several European and national projects. He was also affiliated with the Informatics and Telematics Institute in Greece.
Dr Boulgouris has published more than 70 papers in international journals and conferences (inluding 13 papers in IEEE journals) and his papers have been cited more than 300 times in papers by other researchers who work in the same area of research.
Dr Boulgouris is KCL's principal investigator in the FP7 project "ACTIBIO", funded by the European Commission. KCL's ACTIBIO team is conducting pioneering research in the area of vision-based biometric identification and surveillance. More information about this project is available at http://www.actibio.eu
Dr Boulgouris was nominated by the students who attended his lectures for a teaching award in 2008.
Dr. Boulgouris is an Associate Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters and a co-editor of the book Biometrics: Theory, Methods, and Applications that was published by Wiley - IEEE Press in 2009. He was a guest editor for a special issue on human activity recognition that was published in 2009 on the Eurasip Journal on Image and Video Processing. He was also a guest co-editor for a special issue that was published on the Eurasip Journal on Applied Signal Processing in 2008.
Dr. Boulgouris is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
