Biography
Dr William G Chambers was born in Leeds, England, in 1937. He received his degree in mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 1959 and his PhD in 1963. He was a lecturer in mathematics at Westfield College and at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, both in the the University of London, until his transfer to the Electronic Engineering Department at King's College London in 1986.
He has worked in a number of fields including solid-state physics and Fourier transform spectroscopy. Currently his main interests are in coding theory, in cryptology, in chaos theory, and in spread-spectrum communications. He is the author of a book Basics of Communications and Coding (Oxford University Press 1985) and of over forty articles in refereed journals.
He retired in August 2002, but is still an honorary member of the group!
