Research
Carry’s PhD research is about water in eighteenth century London. It aims to explore the impact of the growing city on the water features. Issues of competition over limited resources and water management will be addressed. This is an AHRC sponsored CASE award in collaboration with the Museum of London/Museum in Docklands.

Biography
Carry van Lieshout graduated in 2004 from University College Utrecht with a degree in Social Science (Geography and Anthropology). In 2004/5 she completed the Cities MA at King’s College London. Her dissertation was about the wealth and investments of a group of West India Merchants. From October 2006 till December 2007 she worked as a research assistant for an ERSC sponsored project “Women investors in England and Wales, 1870-1930” at King’s. Her research interests are the history of London and its connections with the wider world, and environmental history.
