Professional background and areas of interest

Martin Stevens PhD has a background in residential work with adults with learning disabilities, and then 12 years as a research officer for Hampshire Social Services Department. Research areas of interest include learning disabilities and child protection. Also interested in research methodology, specifically the application of multiple methods and approaches.
 
Martin is Chair of the Social Services Research Group (SSRG), and advises the Department of Health in implementing research governance in local government. He is also advising the Department of Health on two recently funded research studies:
 
The Carers Demonstration sites 
 
User-Led Organisations study to monitor progress towards meeting objective 4.3 of Improving the Life Chances of Disabled, which sets the aim of developing a User-Led Organisation that meets the User-Led Organisation design criteria In both of these projects, Martin is advising the DH teams and supporting the researchers in implementing the research designs.
