Book Launch at Saatchi & Saatchi

Performing Gender at Work book cover Dr Elisabeth Kelan’s new book ‘Performing Gender at Work’ was successfully launched on 27 October 2009 at Saatchi & Saatchi's London headquarters.

Elisabeth discussed the key elements of the book. The book develops a new understanding of gender: that gender is not something one is but rather something one does. This means that we perform gender and are performed by gender. Drawing on detailed academic research in the IT industry, the book urges us to think about stereotypes and biases when we evaluate skills, to give validity to different career stories and to develop a language, which allows us to address gender inequality. The book illustrates vividly how gender is something that is performed in the workplace and what implications this has. The book was also reviewed on Reuters’ website.

Over 50 invited academics and practitioners attended the evening event. The event was kindly supported by Saatchi & Saatchi, Palgrave Macmillan and the King's College London HRM Learning Board. Copies of the book are available at a reduced price with the flyer below.
