Professor Christian Heath

Biography

Christian Heath Christian Heath is Professor of Work and Organisation and leads the Work, Interaction and Technology Research Centre. He specializes in video-based studies of social interaction, drawing on ethnomethodology and conversation analysis, with a particular interest in the interplay of talk, bodily conduct and the use of tools and technologies. He is currently undertaking projects on auctions and markets, medical consultations and operating theatres, and museums and galleries. These projects are funded by the UK research councils and the IST Programmes of the European Union. A number of these projects also involve the design and development of advanced technologies including for example media spaces, trust systems, and tools to interweave paper and digital documents. These projects involve close collaboration with academic, private and public sector organisations in the UK and abroad. He has published five books and more than hundred academic articles in journals and books and is co-editor of the book series Learning and Doing (Cambridge University Press). He has held positions at the Universities of Manchester, Surrey, and Nottingham and visiting positions at various Universities and industrial research laboratories in the UK and abroad. He currently serves on various School, College and external committees including the ESRC Information and Communications Committee.
