Dr Jon Hindmarsh
Biography
Jon Hindmarsh is Reader in Work Practice and Technology. He joined King's as a research fellow in 1998, was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2004 and then Reader in 2008.His research involves studies of social interaction and communication in settings such as control centres, operating theatres, dental clinics, research labs and museums and galleries. He also engages in interdisciplinary research to explore the potential for these kinds of studies to inform the design of new technologies.
He has three books coming out in 2009-10: 'Video in Qualitative Research' (Sage, co-authored with Christian Heath and Paul Luff); 'Organisation, Interaction and Practice: Studies in ethnomethodology and conversation analysis' (Cambridge University Press, co-edited with Nick Llewellyn); and 'Communication in Healthcare Settings: Policy, participation and new technologies' (Blackwell, co-edited with Alison Pilnick and Virginia Teas Gill). He is also the co-editor of the 'Organisations and Work' section of the journal 'Sociology Compass'.
