Helen Lord: BA English Language & Communication
“I studied English Language and Communication as a mature student at King’s College between 2002 and 2005.
"I had worked for large corporations, but without a degree had always felt a little ‘inadequate’, so following redundancy I decided to take a chance and study for my 'missing degree'. I chose King's College, London because it has one of the top reputations worldwide; it was one of the few universities in London offering a degree in English Language rather than English Literature, and gave the opportunity to study psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics.
"Studying at King's has not only enabled me to further my knowledge of English Language and Communication but to acquire research, writing, and other skills, which have benefited my working life. In addition, increased self-confidence has enabled me to continue studying and attain a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education. I am now a teacher in the FE sector."

"I studied BA Modern Foreign Languages with Education as a mature student at King’s College London between 2003 and 2006. I had always wanted to combine both my passion for languages and teaching. The BA gave me the opportunity to do so by graduating in French, Spanish and Italian as well as acquiring a sound knowledge of the latest theories of education and of language acquisition. After graduating, I went on to complete a PGCE also at King’s and I am now a teacher of French and Spanish in a grammar school. The fact that King’s has such a good reputation came up in the course of the interview and was a key selling point in helping me to obtain my present teaching job.
