IT facilities
The Geography Department strives to maintain a ratio of postgraduate research students to PC numbers of better than 2:1, a goal that we have achieved now for 2 years due to a continious programme of reinvestment in new computing.
With many students away for periods of fieldwork this means that, in practice, students have nearly exclusive use of a single PC in their office, all with access to internet and email. A number of laptop PCs are available for research use, and access is booked via an equipment reservation system.
Specialist computer services
The College provides a variety of specialist computer services for its users, including rooms equipped for graphics work, desktop publishing and computing work in the library. Courses are availabel to train students in a wide range of computer related activities. These include specialist courses on humanities software and programming.
