2011-2012.
Visual Analysis of 4-Dimensional Fields, Processes & Dynamics (VA-4D). European Space Agency (9/11–8/12) PI for KCL (Co-I: Mark Pelling, KCL). €250k, of which 30.5k€ to KCL. Coordinator: R. Ribeiro, UNINOVA, Universidade Nova Lisboa, Portugal.

 

2005-2008.
Extreme Events: Causes and Consequences (E2–C2) (3/05–2/08). Principal Investigator for KCL on European Commission Framework 6 STREP NEST project 12975–E2C2. Project total €1.5M over three years, of which King’s College London will receive 113k€. In addition to being PI for KCL, BDM is leader of one of six scientific workpackages, co-leader of another workpackage, and member of Project Executive Board (5 scientists) overseeing progress of 72 scientists + 17 postdocs/postgrads (16 Partners in eight countries). Coordinating institute is École Normale Supérieure, Paris, coordinator Prof Michael Ghil.

2003-2007.
Contaminated irrigation water and food safety for the urban and peri-urban poor: Appropriate measures for monitoring and control from field research in India and Zambia (7/03–7/07) (£286,856). DFID Engineering Knowledge and Research programme R8160. BDM is co-PI (with Fiona Marshall, University of Sussex)

2005-2006.
Natural Hazards Demonstrations for Teaching (3/05–2/06) Principal Investigator. One year King’s College London award to develop demonstrations related to natural hazards (£3,000).

2004.
Confronting the Comparison of Spatial Models with Environmental Data (1/04–12/04). Principal Investigator on one-year discipline-bridging fellowship awarded by NERC/EPSRC Environmental Mathematics and Sciences initiative. Grant NER/T/S/2003/00128 (£50,619).

2000-2003.
Frequency-Size Distribution of Landslide Areas in Central Italy (9/00–9/03). Co-investigator with DL Turcotte (PI, Cornell University) and F Guzzetti (CI, Landslide Research Center, Perugia, Italy). NASA Grant NAG 5–4361, $180k over three years
