Gerontology

MSc/PG Dip/PG Cert

Our flagship MSc in Gerontology has been described by an external examiner as 'the gold standard to which others aspire'. We offer education at the cutting edge of current research into ageing and later life, through taught modules and original research.

The programme is broadly aimed at health professionals including geriatricians, psychiatrists, GPs, nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and others from the medical and health sciences; holders of the Diploma in Geriatric Medicine are exempt from one third of the course. We have also had many students through our MSc Gerontology programme from other disciplines including students from the social and natural sciences, policy, law, economics and the arts.

Our alumni have gone on to pursue a range of careers including consultant positions in geriatric medicine and psychiatry, work as specialist health care practitioners focusing on older people, analytical positions in government and the public sector, policy positions in public and voluntary organisations and academic posts in Universities around the world. Many of our past graduates now work in strategic positions influencing lives of older people in medicine, social care and policy, or within local government, voluntary organisations, or non-governmental organisations, work with older people or in policy relating to older people, or are hoping to do so in the future.

Full programme details of the programmes, including module descriptions, fees, how to apply and more are available from the Gerontology entry on  online prospectus.

Details of our upcoming open days are now available.
