Welcome to the postgraduate study pages at the Department of Global Health & Social Medicine. We are proud to present an exciting suite of internationally-focused, interdisciplinary Masters programmes that aim to train a new generation of leaders in bioethics, global health, health policy, ageing and social science research.
Our teaching is driven by a commitment to intellectual rigor. We guide students as they develop their ability to think critically and independently, by teaching subjects we research and supporting students to pursue their own ideas.
We combine insights from the natural and medical sciences, social sciences and philosophy to enable students to understand possible solutions to today’s global challenges in order to create a healthy future. Whether students want to promote responsible biomedical research, address global health inequities or ensure fairness across generations, they are required to consider numerous perspectives in order to succeed. Our programmes foster thinking across disciplines and national boundaries.
We are dedicated to supporting students as they take their next academic or professional steps, by actively helping them engage with NGO's and charities, think tanks, government, intergovernmental organisations, the private sector and academia – all areas in which our students have gone on to work in (see further info at "After You Graduate"). Overall satisfaction with our teaching was 92% in the 2015 Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey, well above the average of 83% in other Russell Group Universities.
Students from around the world come to our department as one of the best places to study why health is more than medical matter. We hope to welcome you into our community soon.
