Speaker: Professor Margot Light

Margot Light is Emeritus Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has been teaching and writing about the former Soviet Union for the past 40 years. Among her publications are ‘Russia and the EU: Strategic Partners or Strategic Rivals?, Journal of Common Market Studies (Annual Review, 2008), ‘Foreign Policy’, in Developments in Russian Politics, edited by Stephen White, Richard Sakwa and Henry E. Hale. Palgrave Macmillan, 2010, and ‘The Export of Liberalism to Russia’, in After Liberalism? The Future of Liberalism in International Relations, edited by Rebekka Friedman, Kevork Oskanian, and Ramon Pacheco Pardo (Palgrave Macmillan, forthcoming).

A major scholarly conference organised jointly by the Department of War Studies and Waterloo 200, a body set up to co-ordinate the commemoration of the battle during the upcoming bicentenary. Internationally recognised scholars will present papers over the course of these two days discussing the battle and its impact on the nineteenth century and beyond.
