Biography

Christoph O Meyer, MPhil, PhD (Cambridge), joined the department in January 2007. He previously held positions at Birkbeck, University of London, the Centre for European Policy Studies, the University of Cologne, and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies. He also worked for some time in foreign affairs journalism, writing for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the Frankfurter Rundschau.  After his transfer to the new Department of European & International  Studies in January 2012, he remains closely affiliated with War Studies through leading the Research Group on Warning and Preventive Policy (FORESIGHT)

Current research & consultancy

Prof Meyer’s specialisations include European integration and governance, political communication, and constructivist approaches to foreign and security policy. He has published a monograph on the Quest for European Strategic Culture and articles in leading peer-reviewed journals. He has been active in providing policy advice to the European Parliament and EU Commission and contributes to public debate through commentaries and blogs. As the recipient of a major grant from the European Research Council, Dr Meyer has led a research group on “Foresight: Early Warning and Conflict Prevention” .After the end of the project, the Foresights research group continues to work on areas relating to genocide/mass atrocities as well as lessons learnt about intelligence relating to the “Arab Spring”.For more information o the Foresight project please refer to the following summary:  Do Forecasts Matter? Doctoral supervision

Prof Meyer is generally happy to offer supervision in the area of his research interests, but is currently not accepting any new doctoral candidates:
