Nuclear Security Education

In January 2012 the Centre for Science and Security Studies completed the world’s first professional development course in nuclear security education, which was attended by 13 university faculty members from nine countries.

With the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) two workshops were held at KCL in September 2011 and January 2012 with the aim of stimulating a global growth in education programmes in nuclear security in light of the March 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident and increasing international concerns about the threat of nuclear terrorism.

The course was coordinated by Dr Christopher Hobbs and included presentations by Professor Wyn Bowen, Dr Brooke Rogers and Dr Alan Heyes, OBE, from the War Studies Department.
