Projects

The LNHU brings together dynamic and committed individuals who are involved in numerous research projects of both national and international profiles.
Research themes pertain to a variety of subjects grouped in three main areas:
  • All aspects of history in which navies and the sea feature. These range from state formation and culture to the detailed work of hydrographic surveying, strategic thought and operations.
  •  Academics and research students working in the Unit have addressed the naval history of many counties, form the United Kingdom and the United States through Japan, Spain, Italy, France, Spain, Germany and Russia, and periods ranging from the Middle Ages to the twenty-first century. Fresh new research is always welcome.
  • Contemporary Projects which use naval history as a tool for understanding such diverse issues as strategy, inter-service relations, piracy and counter-terrorism.
