Overseas qualifications and entry requirements

Undergraduate

King’s welcomes students with a range of qualifications from all over the world. To be eligible for consideration for undergraduate programmes, if international qualifications have not been taken, applicants must have completed a foundation year, or completed one or preferably two years of an undergraduate degree at a recognised university with good grades. Common international qualifications we accept, amongst others, include A-Levels, the International Baccalaureate, SATs or Advance Placement exams, for details on other international qualifications and exact grade requirements for your desired degree programme, please go to the programme of interest in the undergraduate prospectus.

Postgraduate

Applicants who hold an Ethiopian Masters degree with a grade of at least B+ or a GPA of 3.5 will be considered for entry onto our postgraduate programmes.

For postgraduate research programmes at King’s you are typically required to be studying for or have completed a master's degree from a recognised university and in a directly related subject in order to be eligible for entry (this is not always necessary in every case). We would recommend contacting a potential supervisor or research group in advance of applying.

English language requirements

You will usually be required to provide certification of your competence in English before starting your studies and this requirement is waived only if the College is satisfied that your previous academic record clearly demonstrates your ability to study and be examined in the English language.

King's accepts a number of different English language tests for entry onto our programmes of study with IELTS being the most common. English language requirements vary slightly from subject to subject. For a full list please refer to the undergraduate and graduate tables. Our British Council accredited English Language Centre also offers a range of pre-sessional, foundation and pre-master’s programmes should you need to improve your English in advance of your degree.

Undergraduate

King’s offers a variety of scholarships for international undergraduate students.  This includes the King’s Scholars scheme which is for students who have already enrolled, rewarding academic merit.  For information on all the funding available to undergraduates and how to apply please contact the Student Funding Office.

Postgraduate

King’s Graduate School offers a range of funding opportunities for postgraduate students applying from across the world.  These include the King’s International Graduate Scholarships, King’s Overseas Research Students Awards, School of Law LLM Scholarships, British Chevening Scholarships and many more.  For a full list and details on how to apply please visit the postgraduate funding pages. Specific funding opportunities for students from Ethiopia include:

King's Africa Scholarship The Graduate School at King's College London is offering a scholarship to the value of £5,000 each, to students of any African nationality who wish to pursue a full-time Postgraduate Taught Masters (PGT) or MPhilStud degree programme in any discipline at King's. The scholarships can be used to contribute towards tuition fees or living costs.

King’s has established the African Leadership Centre in Nairobi, Kenya with the objective to contribute to Africa’s long-term social, economic and political development by mentoring and training the next generation of talented, young leaders and facilitate their participation in long-term change across the continent. The Centre will collaborate with a range of African universities and institutions, and draw on experience from individuals and organisations all over the world.

Your community in London

King's and London are home to a lively and sizeable African community. The Afro Caribbean Society at King’s organizes and takes part in many cultural events and social activities throughout the year including the annual and ever popular Culture Shock Show showcasing culture from the Caribbean and African regions.

African London provides information on fun, and free, things to do in the capital, as well as information about the numerous African restaurants available in the capital. The Voice of African Radio on 94.3 FM in Greater London entertains listeners with an exciting range of African music and provides a vast range of phone–in programmes discussing issues which are pertinent to Africans at local, national and international level.
