The King's Nigerian Law Scholars Fund
King’s College London is delighted to announce the launch of the King’s Nigerian Law Scholars Fund worth £25,000. This unique award will provide Nigerian resident students with an incredible opportunity to gain support to study Law at postgraduate level at The Dickson Poon School of Law.

The Summer of a Life Time
Over summer 2012, King's student Mengjie Hu was selected as a volunteer project worker for the Education Partnerships Africa (EPA) in Kenya. Together with 40 other university students across the UK, she travelled to Kenya for the 10-week project, aiming to improve the standard of local secondary school education. Archbishop Tutu Addresses King's African Leadership Centre in Nairobi
The African Leadership Centre (ALC), part of the Global Institutes group at King’s College London, recently held a debate in Nairobi on youth engagement in the political process in Africa. The debate was second in the King’s Africa series, and was addressed by King’s alumnus Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
The theme of the debate was: Between Justice and Terror: The Spectrum of Voices from the African Continent. The Nobel Peace Laureate echoed the voices of a young generation who often felt marginalized in the political process of Africa, which is dominated by an ageing, if not elderly, political elite.

Zimbabwean student Selina receives the first King's - Canon Collins Scholarship
International student Selina Maenzanise has received the first joint King’s – Canon Collins Scholarship to study MA Disasters, Adaptation and Development in the School of Social Science and Public Policy at King’s. She is very much enjoying her time at King's and has big plans for the future. Selina wants to return to Zimbabwe after her studies and eventually set up a community fund to help others fulfil their educational aspirations. Welcome to our African Students!
On 6 October 2011 we welcomed our new students from all around Africa to King’s. The evening was a great success, with over 30 students attending. Students have come to King’s from all over the region, and on the evening we were able to welcome those from Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.
Staff from the International team at King's also provided information about studying in London and some of the international societies at King's came along to introduce themselves and to offer advice to our new arrivals.
The event gave everyone the opportunity to meet others from their home countries and other countries in Africa. Here are some pictures from the night:

Resources for students coming to King's
If you are an offer-holder for King's and are planning to attend classes next September, we are pleased to pass on the details for our International Student Support office.
Situated at the Strand campus, our international student advisors offer free, one-to-one advice on a range of issues, including immigration, as well as running orientation events, talks and workshops throughout the year.

African Leadership Centre launched
King’s has established the African Leadership Centre in Nairobi, Kenya with the objective to contribute to Africa’s long-term social, economic and political development by mentoring and training the next generation of talented, young leaders and facilitate their participation in long-term change across the continent. The Centre will collaborate with a range of African universities and institutions, and draw on experience from individuals and organisations all over the world.

Young writers start new chapter in Nigeria's literary history
King's student Chibundu Onuzo has signed a two-novel deal with the British publisher Faber, making her its youngest ever woman author. The Nigerian History undergraduate will have her first novel, "The Spider King's Daughter," published next year. Read the full story here.
African Education Leadership Summit
King’s College London hosted 
an African Education Leadership Summit on Thursday 21 October 2010. The summit was attended by senior management and academics from higher education institutions in Nigeria. The main topic of discussion was The Dilemma of Nigerian Institutions in the internationalization of higher education: A view from the Nigerian education leaders.
The delegates were addressed by Vaughan Robinson, Head of the Graduate School on the current internationalisation initiatives carried out by King’s and by Stephen Pigott, International Marketing Officer for Africa on King’s current and future efforts for the recruitment of Nigerian students. The summit was also attended by current King’s students and academics who have a vested interest in the promotion of King’s in Africa. Staff members present were Eka Ikpe (representing Dr Funmi Olonisakin of the Conflict Security and Development Group) who spoke about the African Leadership Centre in Nairobi and Dr Abiodun Alao of the Department of War Studies.
Desmond Tutu receives honorary degree
Archbishop Tutu was awarded an honorary degree from King's, 26 years after it was intended to be given. Read more about the occasion
The first Honorary Degree awarded by King's was given to Helen Suzman DBE, who for many years represented the only real opposition to apartheid within the all-white Parliament in South Africa. Read more
