Welcome from Assistant Director of KLI (Accredited Programmes)

Welcome by Saranne Weller
Assistant Director of KLI (Accredited Programmes)

On behalf of King’s Learning Institute, I am delighted to welcome you to our academic programme provision for 2011-12. The Institute has been involved in the delivery of academic practice programmes for the College since 2001 and, a decade on, we are continuing to develop and to expand our range of programmes to meet the changing needs of staff responsible for enhancing the student learning experience across the College and beyond.

Our programmes are designed to enable you to gain detailed knowledge of the higher education system, to have the opportunity to participate in ongoing debates and contribute to the changes to the learning and teaching environment that are currently taking place.

In the design and delivery of our programmes, we recognise the importance of well-qualified and well-equipped university teachers. The structure of our programmes is flexible so that you can choose option modules tailored to your professional development needs and interests. In same cases, you can choose to study an individual module (for example if you are a Graduate Teaching Assistant or PhD student with some teaching responsibilities). Alternatively, our programmes enable you to work towards a Postgraduate Certificate or continue your studies now or at a later date to achieve a Postgraduate Diploma or Masters degree.

You will find more details about the individual programmes and available modules here as well as in the virtual learning environment which is designed to support your learning during your studies.

Learning and teaching and the broader issues of academic practice in higher education are inevitably complex and conclusions are always contingent and situated in the disciplinary and professional context. As such, it is rarely possible to categorise answers or approaches as ‘right’ or ‘wrong’. We look forward, therefore, to working with you and to the opportunities for the shared learning experience presented to all participants and tutors involved in the programmes.
