Applying for Accommodation
Who Can Apply?
Accommodation applications for a place in residence are only accepted from candidates who have firmly accepted a conditional (CF) or unconditional (UF) offer of a place on an academic programme at the College or those who are progressing into a subsequent year of academic study. Access to the online application system will only be available for eligible applicants. Please note, for new applicants, you should allow a minimum of 48 hours from firmly accepting your offer of a place on an academic programme before accessing the online system.
Please note the information below that relates to you with respect to applying for accommodation, but please also note the deadlines and read the information on procedures and preferences.
For further answers and information you may find our Frequently Asked Questions useful.
Undergraduates
All full-time undergraduate students who are entering higher education in the UK for the first time on a programme of two or more years duration, who submit their accommodation application prior to the 30th June closing date and whose home address is outside the M25 ring road (including International applicants) are guaranteed an offer of one year (not necessarily their first) in either a College, Intercollegiate or nominated residence (eg Liberty House). Applicants within this category who have firmly accepted a conditional (CF) or unconditional (UF) offer of a place on an academic programme at King’s should expect to receive an offer of a place in residence in their first year. Applicants with a home address inside the M25 ring road and those who have previously commenced a higher education academic programme in the UK may apply but will have lower priority and are unlikely to be considered for accommodation until after the start of session.
Returning students - A quota of places in each residence is allocated to returning students each year. If you are a registered student and not spent a year within residence you will be eligible to apply and have a higher priority than those who have lived within residence previously. Priority for places will be given to those with special housing requirements.
The majority of returning students will find accommodation in the Private Rented Sector.
International/Study Abroad/Socrates/Elective Students - Students entering King's College London under the Study Abroad/Socrates/Elective or similar exchange programmes are eligible to apply for housing although availability and choice may be limited. Priority is given to Study Abroad Independent applicants as well as Study Abroad Exchange applicants from partner universities outside of the EU. At times of high demand, it may not be possible to offer rooms to Study Abroad Exchange applicants from partner universities within the EU and such applicants are advised to check the Accommodation Services and University of London Housing Services web pages for details of alternative accommodation options.
Places at Liberty and the Intercollegiate halls are usually only available for the full year session; however, applicants coming for the second and third semesters may make a direct application (intercollegiate halls only).
Please note accommodation is not guaranteed and a premium may be charged if your course dates do not correspond to the standard College semester dates.
Postgraduates
Full-time postgraduates may apply to three of the undergraduate College halls, the student house and self-catering apartments, Liberty Living and the Intercollegiate halls; a quota of places in each of these residences is allocated to postgraduate students. Lilian Penson Hall is reserved for postgraduate applicants. Priority is given to new international/EU postgraduates who are entering the College for the first time on a programme of study of at least one year, who have not lived or studied in the UK before and to postgraduates with exceptional need for College, Liberty or Intercollegiate accommodation. However, not all will be successful prior to start of session and all applicants are encouraged to consider alternative housing options. Candidates with a permanent home address in the UK and those who have previously studied in London may apply for accommodation, although those applications may only be considered if any late vacancies occur within the postgraduate quota.
It is anticipated that many students within this category will need to find accommodation in the Private Rented Sector.
Couples
The College has some accommodation suitable for couples and undergraduate, postgraduate and returning students may apply in accordance with the appropriate applicant category details above.
All International Applicants
It may also be useful to visit the prospective international student webpage for more information to study at King's, life in London and pre-arrival information.
Deadlines
New undergraduate, study abroad and exchanges and new postgraduate applications must be submitted in the correct form by 30 June
Returning student applications must be submitted by 15 March
NB. Study Abroad and Exchange student applicants – January (Spring Semester) intake applications must be submitted by 30 November.
Students can apply after the deadlines, however you should be aware that your application will be treated as a late application, therefore with a lower priority for accommodation.

Preferences
The College encourages academic integration and the residences offer accommodation to students from all disciplines. Applicants should rank ALL of the eligible College, Liberty and Intercollegiate residences in order of preference, some of the halls are heavily over subscribed.
There are a limited number of places at each residence and due to overall demand no guarantee of a place at a specific residence or type of residence or room may be given. Any residences not ranked by the applicant will be considered to be of equal next preference. Notification of any medical/exceptional circumstances or disabilities relevant to the allocation of accommodation must be given at the time of application by submitting either a Medical Self Assessment or Personal Statement Form.
