Joint PhD Scholarships

The Graduate School is pleased to announce that it will be offering up to 3 Joint PhD scholarships to support students planning on undertaking a Joint PhD programme at King's College London commencing in the 2017-18 academic year.

Scholarships will be available as follows:

Application Deadline: 16:00 GMT, 31 March 2017

Value of award

Each scholarship will cover a scholar's full tuition fees at King's College London, offer an annual stipend and a limited research grant.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants MUST:

  • Be due to commence a full-time joint PhD programme during the 2017/18 academic year run in collaboration between King’s College London and either one of the following partner institutions: the University of Hong Kong; the  National University of Singapore; or the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil
  • Have applied to King’s College London as the home institution
  • Have submitted all the required application materials by the funding deadline (as instructed in the ‘Application Process’ section below).

Please note that:

  • The scholarship cannot commence prior to September/October 2017
  • Students currently enrolled on a joint PhD programme are not eligible to apply
  • The scholarship cannot be held on a part-time basis
  • Applications for joint PhD programmes must be approved by both King’s College London and the relevant partner institution before a formal offer can be made. As such, the process may take longer than for a single PhD programme. Students are able to apply for the scholarship whilst their application is being considered in order to meet the set deadline.
  • If final acceptance has not been received by both King's College London and the relevant partner institution by the scholarship deadline, students must have at least obtained approval from the relevant faculty/department/division within King’s College London along with provisional agreement from a supervisor within the partner institution. Proof will be requested as part of the application process.

Application process

Applications will be invited from November 2016 and will close on 31 March 2017 at 16:00 GMT sharp.

Please follow the instructions below.

Applicants who fail to apply as instructed below will not be eligible for consideration.

INSTRUCTIONS: you MUST:

1) First, apply to King’s College London for a joint PhD programme run in collaboration with the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil using the online admissions application (https://apply.kcl.ac.uk/)*

AND

2) Submit the online Joint PhD scholarship application form to the Graduate School by the funding deadline of 16:00 GMT, 31 March 2017. The online application form can be accessed at the link here

*PLEASE NOTE: students who have already applied for admissions, and those who previously applied but deferred entry to 2017/18, will NOT be required to submit an admissions application again.

Selection process

Once the application deadline has passed, the Postgraduate & Graduate School Support (PGSS) office will gather and record the details of all the applications received. Further information and documentation will be extracted from the university’s admissions records/student records, as necessary.

The PGSS office will check the eligibility of all applicants, and all applications that are deemed eligible will be circulated to faculties for assessment. Final decisions will be conducted by a central King’s Graduate School selection panel.

Assessment of applications will be based on:

  1. Evidence and strength of academic qualifications gained and, where applicable, professional qualifications and/or relevant experience;
  2. Strength of the research proposal;
  3. Match of the applicant’s interests with his/her potential supervisors.
