Academic English and Skills

Once you start your main degree at King's, you will have the chance to sign up for a number of short courses that will continue to help develop your academic language and study skills.

The King's English Language Centre offers a number of Academic English & Skills courses to support you throughout your degree, particularly if your first language is not English.

The short courses are free, run across all main campuses throughout the academic year and are taught by highly-qualified English tutors who have professional qualifications and many years of experience in English language teaching.

They cover all elements of Academic English & Skills required within higher education, allowing you to further develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

These courses include:

  • Academic grammar

  • Academic vocabulary

  • Conducting literature reviews

  • Presentation skills

  • Writing research papers

  • Pronunciation skills

You can find out more information about these courses, including how to apply, once you start at King's via the King's College London intranet.
