Programme types and study options
As a student at King’s, you have flexibility and choice so your degree programme can be tailored to your interests. Most programmes enable you to take optional modules in addition to compulsory core modules.
King’s awards three types of degrees:
-
Single honours – modules taken in one subject area
-
Joint honours – modules taken in two subjects of approximate equal weighting
-
Major/minor honours – at least half of modules are in the major subject and a quarter in the supporting subject
Part-time study
King’s supports students who need alternative study arrangements and it may be possible to complete your undergraduate degree part-time over a five or six year period. Please contact the relevant admissions office for further information, as not all schools offer this option.
Teaching and assessment
Depending on your programme of study, you will learn, study and be assessed in different ways. You will attend formal lectures, participate in seminars and tutorials, and study privately at home or in the library. For scientists, laboratory work, practical classes and field work will also be involved. Other forms of learning may include presentations, writing essays or dissertations, industrial and clinical placements, studying abroad, computer-aided learning and carrying out research projects within a group or on your own.
Assessment techniques vary, but most are by a mix of coursework assessment and formal examinations.
