Desmond Tutu Scholarship

King’s College London is very pleased to announce the establishment of this new award, as part of the King's Scholars schemes  for 2012 entry

King’s College London is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, learning and understanding in the service of society. We look for students who are pursuing higher learning so that they can play a part in making the world a better place.

 

What is the Desmond Tutu Scholarship?

The Desmond Tutu Scholarship is one of the new King’s Scholars Scholarships which will directly benefit students entering higher education from 2012-13.

There are a total of five scholarships available, each worth £24,000 for Home/EU students or £39,000 for International students.

 

How much is the Desmond Tutu Scholarship?

Every successful International applicant will receive £13,000 towards their tuition fees at King’s every year for up to three years. This is a total of £39,000.

There are three awards available for International students.

Every successful Home/EU applicant will receive £8,000 towards their tuition fees at King’s every year for up to three years. This is a total of £24,000.

There are two awards available for Home/EU students.

 

Am I eligible for the Desmond Tutu Scholarship?

All undergraduate students starting at King’s in 2012 are eligible to apply, though the following selection criteria will be applied to each applicant:

 

In order to be eligible* to apply for the Desmond Tutu Scholarship, students must:

  • submit a supporting statement showing commitment to improving the lives of people in developing nations and proven commitment to this cause and who exhibit a strong desire to develop skills that, on graduation, they can apply in practical ways to build better futures for disadvantaged peoples around the world;
  • demonstrate a need for financial support to be able to study at King’s.

 

* Home/EU students whose fees are being met in full by the NHS (BSc Physiotherapy, BSc Nutrition & Dietetics, BSc Nursing/Midwifery Studies) are not able to apply for this scheme.

* Home students receiving the Desmond Tutu Scholarship will not be considered for any other King’s fee waiver based scholarship schemes, but will be eligible for a King’s Living Bursary, worth £1,000.
