Erasmus Grants 2012-13

Erasmus Student Grants available for approved study and work placements in Europe.

What is the Erasmus programme?

Erasmus is the European Union's flagship educational exchange programme for Higher Education students, teachers and institutions. It was introduced with the aim of increasing student mobility within Europe. Erasmus forms part of the EU Lifelong Learning Programme (2007-2013).

It encourages student and staff mobility for work and study, and promotes transnational co-operation projects among universities across Europe. The scheme currently involves nine out of every ten European higher education establishments and supports co-operation between the universities of 33 countries.

UK Erasmus students normally receive an Erasmus grant which contributes towards the extra costs arising from studying abroad.

What is the Erasmus Student Grant?

Erasmus grants in the UK are paid in addition to the standard grants or loans to which you are entitled. Please remember that this is a supplementary, non-repayable grant intended to offset any additional expenses you may incur while you are abroad. You should not depend on it to cover your essential living costs. Bear this in mind when you are budgeting!

All communication about your grant will be made via your King's email account and your contact email address, so please ensure you check both regularly.

You will be sent a Student Mobility Agreement to complete and return. Once this has been received, payment of your grant will be arranged. Payment will be made in GBP by BACS to your UK bank account. You will be asked to provide your bank details online via OneSpace (the King's student portal) nearer the time.

Payments are usually made in two instalments - the first around November, and the second around May. Please note that the second instalment is not guaranteed, and will only be available if further funds are made available by The British Council. If you are studying abroad for a shorter period you may only receive a single payment close to your time of departure.

You do not pay any tuition fees to the university you are visiting.

If you spend a full academic year (at least 24 weeks) on an Erasmus work or study placement, you do not nreed pay any UK tuition fees for that year, provided you area first degree student who is eligible for UK statutory student support. However, if you study abroad for less than a year, you will have to pay tuition fees.

What about my maintenance grant and student loan?

What should I do next?
