King's welcomes applicants to our undergraduate courses from countries all over the world. The information below is intended to give general guidance as to the type of qualifications and grades we would require from different regions, but if you can't see your country or qualification here please contact the Admissions Office for further guidance.   

Important notes

  • The details below are intended as general guidance for those considering undergraduate study at King's.

  • Exact entry requirements will vary by course, and some will specify certain compulsory subjects or grades, or state preferred subjects. We have provided general guidance for most courses, but is important that you check our online prospectus for any non-academic entry requirements for your course, as well as any compulsory or preferred subjects.

  • King's has a competitive application process for our courses: meeting the minimum entry requirements alone will not guarantee that you will be successful in receiving an offer to study at King's.

Non-country specific qualifications:

Advanced Placement, ACT and SATs

Advanced Placement and SAT Subject tests are usually acceptable, but only in combination with other assessments such as the SAT Reasoning and ACT test. For further guidance, please see our requirements for the USA below.

Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE)

The CAPE is accepted for direct entry to our undergraduate degree programmes. Comparable entry requirements:

Award of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) with three two-Unit courses with grades 1,1,1

Please note: Where our online prospectus asks for a specific subject grade at A-level,  we are likely to require 1 (I) in the two-Unit course for an A*, 1 (I) in the two-Unit course for an A and 2 (II) in the two-Unit course for a B. European Baccalaureate

The European Baccalaureate is accepted for direct entry to our undergraduate degree courses. Comparable entry requirements:

In addition, high grades (usually 8-9) are required in specific subjects: see our online prospectus for details of any subjects considered compulsory or preferable for entry to your chosen degree course.

International A-levels

International A-levels are accepted as equivalent to GCE A-levels on a grade-per-grade basis. For further information see our A-level requirements. EU/International applicants with A-levels may also want to see our International webpages.

International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB)

IB requirements are listed in our online prospectus for each course. Our offers will usually specify certain marks in three subjects at Higher Level (usually in the ranges of 766-665), in addition to an overall point score (maximum 35) for the whole Diploma. EU/International applicants with the IB may also want to see our International webpages.

King’s will consider applications from students who have chosen not to enrol in the full IB Diploma Programme (DP) and have, instead, chosen to complete independent DP subject courses and the core components of Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE).

Students who have chosen not to enrol in the IB Diploma Programme must still meet King’s Higher Level, Standard Level and overall score requirements as detailed above,  assessment is based on the Diploma Programme course results (DPCR).

A

Australia

The Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) score received at the end of secondary school is accepted for direct entry to undergraduate programmes at King's. We will usually be looking for evidence of high grades along with a pass in the Year 12 High School Certificate of Education. Comparable entry requirements: 

Australia requirements
 A*AA Achieve an ATAR score of 97 in addition to a pass in the Year 12 High School Certificate of Education. 
 AAA Achieve an ATAR score of 96.5 in addition to a pass in the Year 12 High School Certificate of Education. 
 AAB Achieve an ATAR score of 95 in addition to a pass in the Year 12 High School Certificate of Education. 
 ABB Achieve an ATAR score of 94 in addition to a pass in the Year 12 High School Certificate of Education. 
 BBB Achieve an ATAR score of 92 in addition to a pass in the Year 12 High School Certificate of Education. 

 

For applicants from Queensland we will usually be looking for evidence of high grades along with a pass in the Queensland Certificate in Education. Comparable entry requirements: 

Queensland requirements
 A*AA Achieve an Overall Position of Band 2 in addition to a pass in the Queensland Certificate of Education.
 AAA  Achieve an Overall Position of Band 2 in addition to a pass in the Queensland Certificate of Education.
 AAB  Achieve an Overall Position of Band 3 in addition to a pass in the Queensland Certificate of Education.
 ABB  Achieve an Overall Position of Band 4 in addition to a pass in the Queensland Certificate of Education.
 BBB  Achieve an Overall Position of Band 5 in addition to a pass in the Queensland Certificate of Education.

In addition, we will be looking for evidence of high grades in any subjects considered compulsory or preferable for entry to your chosen degree progamme (see our online prospectus for details).

Austria

The Reifeprufungzeugnis (when awarded by an Allgemeinbildende höhere Schulen) is accepted for direct entry to undergraduate courses at King's. In addition, we will be looking for evidence of high grades (usually between 1 and 2) in individual elective subjects considered compulsory or preferable for entry to your chosen degree course (see our online prospectus for details) Comparable entry requirements:

Azerbaijan

Undergraduate entry

The General Secondary Education Certificate is not considered suitable for direct entry to undergraduate study at King's. Applicants may wish to consider taking one of our International Foundation courses (see below).

Students with the High School certificate should consider applying for our International Foundation Programmes. For further information on the programme and entry requirements please see the programme page on our online prospectus.

B

Barbados

We welcome applicants with high grades in the following qualifications for entry to our undergraduate degree courses:

Belgium

The Certificat d'Enseignement Secondaire Supérieur, Diplome van Secundair Onderwijs or Abschlusszeugnis de Oberstufe des Sekundarunterricht is accepted for direct entry to undergraduate programmes at King's. In addition, we will be looking for evidence of high grades in individual elective subjects in any subjects considered compulsory or preferable for entry to your chosen degree course (see our online prospectus for details). Comparable entry requirements:

Belgium Entry Requirments
 A*AA  Award of the diploma with an overall grade of 90% (9 out of 10 or 18 out 20)

Brazil

Undergraduate entry

The Certificado de Conclusão de Ensino Médio is not considered suitable for direct entry to undergraduate study at King's. Applicants may wish to consider taking one of our International Foundation courses (see below).

King's International Foundation

Students with the High School certificate should consider applying for our International Foundation Programmes. For further information on the programme and entry requirements please see the programme page on our online prospectus.

Brunei

The Brunei/Cambridge GCE A-level is accepted for entry to undergraduate programmes at King's with comparable grades to UK GCE A-levels.

Bulgaria

The Diploma za Zavarsheno Sredno Obrazovanie is accepted for entry to undergraduate programmes at King’s. In addition, we will be looking for evidence of high grades (usually between 5.0 and 5.8) in individual final year subjects considered compulsory or preferable for entry to your chosen degree course (see our online prospectus for details). Comparable entry requirements:

Bulgaria entry requirements
 A*AA Award of the Diploma za Zavarsheno Sredno Obrazovanie with 5.0 in all state examinations and an overall grade of 5.8

C

Canada

Applicants from High Schools in Canada will usually be expected to be taking at least 5 subjects at pre-University course/grade 12 level, including any subjects stated as ‘compulsory’ for their chosen course of study (see our online prospectus for detail). Comparable entry requirements:

Achieve a 90% average across five best grade 12 subjects

AAA

Achieve a 85% average across five best grade 12 subjects

AAB

Achieve a 83% average across five best grade 12 subjects

ABB

Achieve a 80% average across five best grade 12 subjects

BBB

Achieve a 75% average across five best grade 12 subjects

Where our online prospectus asks for a specific subject grade at A-level, we are likely to require 90% or grade A in the individual grade 12 subject for an A*, 85% or grade A in the individual grade 12 subject for an A and 83% or grade A- in the individual grade 12 subject for a B (see our online prospectus for details of any compulsory/preferred subjects). 

Applicants with Advanced PlacementInternational Baccalaureate or who may have completed the first year of university study in Canada are also welcome to apply with strong grades.

Chile

Undergraduate entry

The Licencia de Educatión/Enseñanza Media is not considered suitable for direct entry to undergraduate study at King's. Applicants may wish to consider taking one of our International Foundation programmes (see below).

China

Undergraduate entry

The Senior High School Certificate and/or Hui Kao are not considered suitable for direct entry to undergraduate study at King's. Applicants may wish to consider taking one of our International Foundation programmes (see below).

Colombia

Undergraduate entry

The Bachiller Académico is not considered suitable for direct entry to undergraduate study at King's. Applicants may wish to consider taking one of our International Foundation programmes (see below).

Croatia

The Drzavna Matura (State Matura) is accepted for direct entry to undergraduate programmes at King's, normally with an overall average of 5. In addition, we will be looking for evidence of high grades (usually between 4 and 5)  in individual subjects considered compulsory or preferable for entry to your chosen degree course. Comparable entry requirements:

The Maturita is accepted for direct entry to undergraduate programmes at King's, normally with four subjects between 1 (výborný) and 2 (chválitebný). In addition, we will be looking for evidence of high grades in individual subjects considered compulsory or preferable for entry to your chosen degree course. Comparable entry requirements:

Denmark

The Studentereksamen, (Upper Secondary School Leaving Examination), Højere Forberedelseseksamen (Higher Preparatory Examination) or Højere Teknisk Eksamen (Higher Technical Examination Certificate) will be considered for direct entry to undergraduate degrees, usually with an overall average of between 7 and 12. Comparable entry requirements:

Award of the Studentereksamen, Højere Forberedelseseksamen or Højere Teknisk Eksamen with an overall average of 12 

AAA

Ecuador

Undergraduate entry

The Título de Bachiller en Ciencias is not considered suitable for direct entry to undergraduate study at King's. Applicants may wish to consider taking one of our International Foundation programmes (see below).

F

France

The Diplôme du Baccalauréat Général or the Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) are accepted for direct entry. The grades usually accepted vary from 12 to 16 overall. Where our online prospectus mentions compulsory or preferred individual subjects, we would expect applicants to be taking the most relevant Bac (for example, the Bac "S" for entry to science courses) and to achieve high marks (usually between 13 and 16) in specific subjects. Comparable entry requirements:

Award of the Diplôme du Baccalauréat Général or the Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) with 16 overall 

AAA

Award of the Diplôme du Baccalauréat Général or the Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) with 15 overall

AAB

Award of the Diplôme du Baccalauréat Général or the Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) with 14 overall

ABB

Award of the Diplôme du Baccalauréat Général or the Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) with 13 overall

BBB

Award of the Diplôme du Baccalauréat Général or the Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) with 12 overall

Where our online prospectus asks for a specific subject grade at A-level, we are likely to require 16 in the individual Baccalaureate subject for an A*, 14 in the individual Baccalaureate subject for an A and 13 in the individual Baccalaureate subject for a B (see our online prospectus for details of any compulsory/preferred subjects).

Finland

The Ylioppilastutkinto/Studentexamen is accepted for direct entry, normally with four examination subjects. In addition, we will be looking for evidence of high grades in individual examination subjects considered compulsory or preferable for entry to your chosen degree programme. Comparable entry requirements:

 A*AA Award of the Ylioppilastutkinto/Studentexamen with at least four subjects, including one subject at grade 7 and two subjects at grade 6

Where our online prospectus asks for a specific subject grade at A-level, we are likely to require 7/L (Laudatur) in an individual examination subject for an A*, 6/E (Eximia cum laude approbatur) in an individual examination subject for an A and 5/M (Magna cum laude approbatur) in an individual examination subject for a B  (see our online prospectus for details of any compulsory/preferred subjects).

G

Germany

The Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife (Abitur) is accepted for direct entry, normally with an overall mark of between 1.7 and 1.3. In addition, we will be looking for evidence of high grades (usually between 12 and 14) in individual LK (Leistungskurse) subjects considered compulsory or preferable for entry to your chosen degree programme. Comparable entry requirements:

Germany entry requirements

A*AA

Award of the Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife (Abitur) with 1.3 overall and two LK (Leistungkurse) subjects at grades 14, 13

AAA

Award of the Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife (Abitur) with 1.4 overall and two LK (Leistungkurse) subjects at grades 13, 13

AAB

Where our online prospectus asks for a specific subject grade at A-level, we are likely to require 14 in an individual LK (Leistungskurse) subject for an A*, 13 in an individual LK (Leistungskurse) for an A and 12 in an individual LK (Leistungskurse) for a B  (see our online prospectus for details of any compulsory/preferred subjects).

Greece

Undergraduate entry

Applicants with the Apolytirion (School leaving certificate) will need to need to achieve high grades (usually 18, but 19 could be required of some of our high grade AAA/A*AA courses) in addition to undertaking an acceptable Foundation year such as the King’s International Foundation, with high grades, including study of relevant subjects for your chosen course. We may however consider applicants who are taking the Apolytirion with high grades (18-19) in addition to two A-levels (at AA or AB depending on course) for some courses (excluding Medicine,Dentistry).

King's International Foundation

Students with the Apolytirion but who do meet King's typical offer requirements  for their intended programme of study should consider applying for our International Foundation Programmes. Guyana

We welcome applicants with high grades in the following qualifications for entry to our undergraduate degree courses:

H

Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) will be considered for undergraduate entry.

Hong Kong entry requirements

A*AA

Three elective subjects at minimum Levels 5*, 5, 5

Level 4 in each of the four core subjects

AAA

Three elective subjects at minimum Levels 5, 5, 5

Level 4 in each of the four core subjects

AAB

Three elective subjects at minimum Levels 5, 5, 5

Level 4 in each of the four core subjects

ABB

Three elective subjects at minimum Levels 5, 5, 4

Level 4 in each of the four core subjects

Where our online prospectus asks for a grade A* at A-level in a specific subject, we are likely to require Level 5*, and for A grade at Level 5.

Important exception - Mathematics

Where our online prospectus requires Mathematics at A-level, the HKDSE core Maths will not be sufficient by itself. Where Mathematics A grade is asked for, we require:

  • either Level 5 in Compulsory Mathematics and Level 5* in Extended Mathematics

  • Or, Level 5* in Extended Mathematics and Level 5 in Compulsory Mathematics

 in addition to two further elective subjects at 5, and 4 in remaining core modules.

Hungary

The Hungarian Matura (Erettségi) is accepted for direct entry. Five subjects should normally be taken with grades between 4 and 5, and at least two subjects should be at Advanced Level (emelt szintu) with 60% or above. Comparable entry requirements:

 A*AA Award of the Matura (Erettségi) with five subjects at 5 (jeles), including two subjects at advanced level (emelt szintu) with 75% and 70%
 AAA Award of the Matura (Erettségi) with five subjects at 5 (jeles), including two subjects at advanced level (emelt szintu) with 70% in both

Iceland

The Stúdentspróf (Matriculation Certificate) is accepted for direct entry,  normally with an overall score of between 7.5 and 9. In addition, we will be looking for evidence of high grades (usually between 8 and 10) in individual  subjects considered compulsory or preferable for entry to your chosen degree programme. Comparable entry requirements:

 A*AA  Award of the Stúdentspróf (Matriculation Certificate) with an overall score of 9
 AAA  Award of the Stúdentspróf (Matriculation Certificate) with an overall score of 8.5

The Indian High School Leaving Certificate (CBSE and ISC boards only) at the end of standard XII will generally be considered for direct entry onto undergraduate programmes with an overall average score of 80% or above.

However, please note that for highly competitive programmes an overall average score of 90% and above would put candidates at an advantage.

King’s asks the applicants with US high school qualifications meet two requirements, in addition to satisfying any specific subject requirements:

1) Applicants must study three subjects in-depth, including any subjects stated in our online prospectus as ‘compulsory’ for your course. We will therefore ask for three subjects at Advanced Placement , or three subjects at SAT- S (or a combination of any three different subjects). Comparable entry requirements:

Where our online prospectus asks for a specific subject grade at A-level, we are likely to require: 5 in the AP or 720 in the SAT-S for an A*; 5 in the AP or 700 in the SAT-S for an A and 4 in the AP or 650 in the SAT-S for a B  (see our online prospectus for details of any compulsory/preferred subjects).

2) In addition, all applicants must achieve strong scores in either the SAT-R or ACT. Comparable scores for the redesigned SAT-R taken after March 2016 are now available. We welcome applicants who have completed the optional Essay in the SAT-R after March 2016, though we do not require applicants to have taken it. Comparable entry requirements:
