Overview
This European Studies (German Pathway) BA will teach you all about the history and politics of Europe and equip you with the language skills to truly understand the German perspective. You’ll spend a year studying in German at a Berlin university and graduate as both a German speaker and an expert in European Studies.

I particularly liked being surrounded by students and lecturers from all around Europe. I also really enjoyed the relatively small number of students in lectures and seminars, and the fact that everyone knew each other.

Course essentials
In your first year of your European Studies (German Pathway) BA, you’ll learn about the German state and begin your language studies with modules that are matched to your language ability. You’ll begin to build your knowledge of European Studies by learning about the Making of Modern Europe and you’ll strengthen this in Year Two with more language modules, plus lessons on the European Union and Germany during the Cold War period.
Your third year of your European Studies (German Pathway) BA will be spent studying abroad at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. You’ll get to immerse yourself in student life in Berlin, and deepen your language skills to become a German speaker. When you return to King’s for Year Four, you’ll complete your final language modules and spend the rest of the time on your optional modules.
This European Studies (German Pathway) BA gives you the opportunity to choose your own syllabus and develop a personal specialism. You’ll get to combine views to develop a well-rounded understanding of Europe, and from a German perspective.
This degree’s many multidisciplinary modules cover politics, history, economics, linguistics, culture and more. You can learn about topics ranging from European and public law to economics, Cold War German history – and beyond.
You also have the opportunity to enhance your studies by embracing the range of extracurricular activities on offer, such as guest lectures, student societies and more.
