Briefly, tell us about your background and career up to this point?
I studied Psychology and Sociology at Exeter University and then went on to work in the charity sector for a few years. Following this, I have been working at King’s College for eight and a half years! I have worked in various roles within the Philanthropy & Alumni Team and am currently Senior Events Manager. I really love the sense of accomplishment that comes from creating opportunities to build important relationships and showcase the amazing diversity of work that takes place across the University.
What do you think people in the School would find most surprising about you?
I swam in the Antarctic Ocean.
What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?
Make decisions based on what makes you happy, life is too short.
What do you do with your time outside academia/work?
I have a lot of interests that I try to make time for. I really love being outside, walking, cycling, running, and playing tennis. I also have a health coaching business, helping clients make sustainable changes to their lives with the goal of healthy ageing.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
Within work, I am really looking forward to launching some big new events within our team and continuing to work with inspirational people across the University. Outside of work, I am excited to focus on my health coaching business and to help more clients!
What is something positive that happened to you over the last year?
I completed a hike in Switzerland called the ‘Dent du Midi Tour’. It was three days long, mostly in the snow and on the third day, we somehow managed 45,000 steps! One of those times where I was seriously questioning my decision in the moment, but look back on it with fond memories and a real sense of achievement.
What is your favourite thing about working at King’s?
The people I get to work with every day. I could not imagine more wonderful colleagues who I am always learning from and being amazed by.
QUICK-FIRE:
Favourite London restaurant: Toklas on Surrey Street. I only discovered this restaurant recently, having worked across the road for nearly a decade, but it is amazing.
Favourite book: A recent favourite is The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell.
Coffee order: Double espresso (my husband is French; this is his influence!).
The quality you value most in others: Difficult to pick one, but I think it would be kindness.
