Can you tell us a little about your role and what you do?
I am a Lecturer in Neuroscience Education at the IoPPN, and I also serve as the Senior Personal Tutor (SPT) and Staff Student Liaison Committee (SSLC) Chair for the Biomedical Science programme in FoLSM. My role sits at the intersection of teaching, student support, and community building, both at the IoPPN and FoLSM. Whether I am delivering teaching, supporting student reps, or helping shape the student experience, I see my work as creating an environment where students feel heard, valued, and empowered to thrive.
What motivates your work with students?
For me, students are at the heart of everything. Supporting them; academically, pastorally, and personally, is the most fulfilling part of my role. I am deeply driven by their growth, their curiosity, and the transformations we see as they progress through their journey at King’s. Championing their voices and ensuring they have meaningful opportunities to succeed is something I care about immensely.
What does being an SPT/SSLC Chair involve?
As SPT and SSLC Chair, I work closely with students, student reps, academic colleagues, and professional services to ensure that student feedback is not just collected but genuinely acted on. I help facilitate conversations that make change possible, whether that’s improving content delivery, assessment clarity, shaping timetabling, or enhancing the sense of belonging on the programme. I also support student reps themselves, so they feel confident and engaged in their roles.
What impact do you hope your work has on the Bioscience community?
My hope is that every student feels they have a champion, someone who genuinely listens, supports, and advocates for them. I want the Bioscience programmes to be a place where students feel connected, respected, and academically nurtured. If a student leaves King’s feeling more confident, more empowered, and more “seen,” then I feel I have done my job.
What do you enjoy most about being part of King’s?
Without doubt, the people. Our students bring such passion, resilience, and energy, and my colleagues are incredibly dedicated. I am also proud of the culture of partnership we are continuously building. Seeing staff and students working side by side to shape the educational experience is something truly special.
Tell us something we might not know about you?
I am committed to widening participation and global citizenship beyond King’s too. Every year, I travel to Northern Sri Lanka to support secondary schools, running teacher training, STEM outreach, and spoken‑English programmes. Ensuring that students everywhere have equitable opportunities is a mission I carry with me in all aspects of my work.
