Cultural data portal
In collaboration with the Department of Informatics at King's, Culture is developing a cultural data portal to provide the sector with access to high-quality data to support decision-making, planning, advocacy and artistic practice; and to provide Informatics students with a live portal for learning and research.
We feel that in the age of open data, linked data and APIs, the time is right to bring together relevant data sets and develop an interface that really allows people to explore this information at their fingertips. We view this data portal as a ‘sister site’ to CultureCase, ensuring that it is imbued with the same qualities of simplistic design and intuitive search.
The project has already explored potential data sets that can go into the portal. The architecture of the database and eventual interface is still being developed. We are also holding conversations with data holders in the UK arts and culture sector and seeking to gather the input of relevant experts and potential users. We expect to launch a prototype version of the portal in early 2017.
