Professor Nicola Phillips

Professor Nicola Phillips joined King’s in October 2017 as Vice President/Vice-Principal (Education), and a Professor of Political Economy in the Department of Political Economy.

After graduating from King’s with an undergraduate degree in Hispanic Studies and completing an MSc in Comparative Government and a PhD in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science, she has held posts at the Universities of Warwick, Manchester and most recently Sheffield, where she was the Head of the Department of Politics between 2014 and 2017.

Professor Phillips received the award of Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS) in 2016. She was the Chair of the British International Studies Association (BISA) in 2015-2016, and a member of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) sub-panel for Politics and International Studies. She has held visiting positions and fellowships at a range of institutions, including the Australian National University, the University of British Columbia and the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).

Professor Phillips’ research and teaching centres on global political economy, with particular interests in global economic governance, labour in global production, migration in the global economy, and global inequality.
