IoP, Maudsley Charity & Maudsley Learning team up on new scholarships
As part of the King's Access to the Professions Scholarship Scheme, King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry (IoP) is offering 10 fully funded postgraduate scholarships, in partnership with Maudsley Charity and Maudsley Learning.
Aimed at under-represented groups this exciting opportunity has arisen for final year undergraduates and graduates who wish to pursue postgraduate study in the 2014/15 academic year.
King’s College London has been awarded funds through the HEFCE Postgraduate Support Scheme, to broaden access to postgraduate study for academically excellent applicants from non-traditional backgrounds. This is part of a government initiative to increase access into the professions, and at King’s focuses on entry into informatics, mental health, creative industries and nursing and midwifery research. The scheme seeks to enhance the knowledge and skills of the scholars with a view to future employment within these sectors. King’s is offering 36 fully funded scholarships to students who apply to selected master’s programmes, 10 of which are at the IoP:

The 10 scholarships have been co-funded by Maudsley Charity; and Maudsley Learning will be working with colleagues at the IoP in the promotion of the scheme, the selection of the 10 successful candidates and the facilitation of valuable internships. Maudsley Learning will also be co-producing and hosting a Summer School for the successful scholars.
Professor Susan Lea, Vice-Dean (Education), IoP at King’s said: “We are delighted to be part of this important scheme. The IoP has ‘making a difference’ at the heart of what we do. This exciting scheme will enable students who otherwise might not have been able to pursue their chosen career path to access postgraduate education and contribute to the vital area of mental health.”
Genevieve Glover, Managing Director, Maudsley Learning adds: “What is really exciting about this scheme is that it not only provides access to a wide range of postgraduate courses for people who may perhaps not be able to afford such an education but that through the additional guidance provided by the Summer School, mentoring and internships it gives a roadmap towards a life-changing profession.”
