New 2018 NIHR Senior Investigators announced

Three academics from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience have been appointed NIHR Senior Investigators, and one academic has become an Emeritus Senior Investigator. The appointees were named in the 11th round of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Senior Investigator competition.

The new NIHR Senior Investigator appointments are:

Robert Stewart, Professor of Psychiatric Epidemiology & Clinical Informatics

Steven Williams, Professor of Imaging Sciences

Andrew Pickles, Professor of Biostatistics

Professor Dame Til Wykes, Vice-Dean of Psychology & Systems Sciences and Professor of Clinical Psychology & Rehabilitation was named as new Emeritus Senior Investigator.

Professor Ian Everall, Executive Dean at the IoPPN said, ‘These new NIHR senior investigator and Emeritus Senior Investigator appointments are a true testament to the outstanding work and achievements that researchers at the Institute make.  We now have a total of 20 either current or emeritus senior investigators at the IoPPN, which is wonderful and is something that I am very proud of.’

Senior Investigators are among the most prominent and prestigious researchers funded by the NIHR and the most outstanding leaders of patient and people-based research within the NIHR Faculty. They are appointed through an annual competition informed by the advice of an international panel of experts, and provide visible leadership within the NIHR. They also act as a key source of advice to the Department of Health & Social Care's Chief Scientific Adviser.

Professors Dame Til Wykes, Anthony David, Philippa Garety, Elizabeth Kuipers, Sir Robin Murray, Sir Graham Thornicroft, and Sir Simon Wessely
