About the gift

The Yeoh Tiong Lay gift was made to The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London in 2013 by the family of Dato‘ Mark Yeoh, alumnus of King’s. Dato’ Mark Yeoh graduated from King’s Law School with an LLB (Hons) in 1987.

The gift of £7 million from the Yeoh family is funding LLM scholarships as well as the Centre for Politics, Philosophy & Law and academic posts in the School -  including the Chair of the Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for Politics, Philosophy & Law.

The donation is the largest from a Malaysian family to any UK university.

A generous LLM Scholarship Programme

The Yeoh Tiong Lay LLM Scholarship Programme offered prestigious scholarships to outstanding new Law students starting their studies at The Dickson Poon School of Law.

The scholarships covered the cost of tuition fees for the year, and a £10,000 contribution to living costs while students were studying.

Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for Politics, Philosophy & Law

The Centre for Politics, Philosophy & Law will further build King’s reputation as a dynamic international institution for legal teaching and research in the heart of London.

Professor Sir Rick Trainor, Principal of King's, said: ‘This gift is fantastic for King’s and its Dickson Poon School of Law. We are hugely honoured by and grateful to the Yeoh family for their generosity and vision in creating this new Centre, where we hope to attract the brightest and best legal scholars from all over the world.’

Professor John Tasioulas is the inaugural Chair of Politics, Philosophy & Law and Director of the Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for Politics, Philosophy & Law. Read the announcement about Professor Tasioulas' appointment.

Politics, Philosophy & Law LLB

The work of the Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre will underpin the teachings of King’s Politics, Philosophy & Law (PPL) LLB degree. Launched in 2012, the PPL degree is a unique programme in the UK that allows students to fulfil the requirements of a qualifying law degree while being able to choose from a range of modules in philosophy and political economy.

The PPL degree is designed to equip students with an interdisciplinary education that will prepare them for working in an increasingly globalised environment. The nature of the programme provides access to eminent academics from three outstanding faculties and gives students the chance to consider a wide range of career options through King’s connections and links with London’s global community.
