In mid-September 2018, Professor Gonda Van Steen took up the position of Koraes Professor and Director of the Centre for Hellenic Studies. She was appointed to succeed Professor Roderick Beaton, FBA as Koraes Professor and CHS Director. For more on this recent appointment, click here.
The current Centre Administrator is Martha Papaspiliou, doctoral student in the Department of Classics.
Members of the Centre are:
- all academic staff of the Department of Classics
- other members of the academic and Professional Services staff of King’s College London or the Courtauld Institute, by invitation of the Director
- any member of KCL academic staff who wishes to support the aims of the Centre (prospective members should contact the Director)
- visiting staff affiliated to the Centre for periods of between 6 months and 3 years, normally either Visiting Research Fellows or Visiting Professors.
Members receive the Centre’s annual Newsletter, email notices and reminders of upcoming events, and papers for the Centre’s Annual General Meeting held in June.
The Director is supported by a Management Committee, which in turn is advised by a Publications Subcommittee.
The work of the Centre is overseen by an International Advisory Board, chaired by the Principal, and made up of distinguished academics and stakeholders in the field of Hellenic Studies, currently from the UK, Italy, Greece, and the USA.
