Module availability list 2018/19
Level 5 modules are second year level undergraduate modules.
Language modules are normally open only to students of the Department, unless otherwise indicated.
For students on the BA Liberal Arts programme, please consult your Student Handbook for the list of modules that you are eligible to request from this department.
The modules offered in each academic year are subject to change in line with staff availability and student demand so there is no guarantee every module listed here will run. Module descriptions and information may vary between years.
- Second year students must take at least 60 credits of modules at level 5 and cannot take more than 150 credits at level 4 over the course of their degree.
Level 5 - 30 credit modules (running over both semesters I and II)
Level 5 - 15 credit modules (running in either semester I or II)
Modules from other departments: the following may count towards Classics credits
Department of History
This module is offered in the Department of History but places are available for students in the Department of Classics. Spaces on this module are limited and, if oversubscribed, will be allocated randomly.
Department of Philosophy
These modules are offered in the Department of Philosophy. Places are NOT guaranteed for students in the Department of Classics, however the content of these modules means that they may be counted towards Classics credits, and would not count towards external module allowance.
If you wish to take one of these Philosophy modules, you must still submit an External Module Request form, in order to register your interest.

If taken for credit, the 15-credit language module must be taken as part of your tariff of 120 credits and will count towards your overall degree result. The 15-credit language modules are taught over both semesters.
- 5AALGK01 Modern Greek Stage One (NB: this module covers the same content as 4AALGK01)
Information about how to enrol with the MLC can be found here: Assessed modules for Undergraduates
The Faculty ‘Opportunity modules’ are an innovative initiative to create novel spaces in which students can try something outside their own disciplines. They are specifically designed to be accessible to a wide range of students from across the Faculty and provide them with a supportive environment in which to experience cutting-edge research-informed teaching in subjects other than their own.
