King's English Poetry And...series: Poetry and History

A series of free poetry readings in Gilbert Scott’s Gothic chapel at King's, highlighting the power of poetry to connect across boundaries and disciplines. Chaired and introduced by Ruth Padel, Poetry Fellow in the Department of English.

Poetry and History with Roy Foster, Professor of Irish History at Oxford, author of the two-volume authorised biography of W.B.Yeats, The Apprentice Mage and The Arch-Poet, and poet James Brookes. The two will read poems and talk on the relation of poetry to history.

This event will also mark the launch of Wild Court poetry website, edited by poet Declan Ryan and named after an alley off Kingsway opposite King’s College Virginia Woolf Building, the home of many 19th century Irish immigrants.
