Christopher Wintle was a full-time teaching member of the King's Music Department from 1989 to 2009 and Head of Theory and Analysis from 1995. Before that he held appointments at the Universities of Southampton and Reading as well as at Goldsmiths' College London; in 1974 he was a Visiting Fellow at Princeton University (USA). He is the director of a small, award-winning academic press, Plumbago Books, a co-founder of the journal Music Analysis, the 'architect' of the Senate House Institute of Musical Research, the literary executor of the Austro-German critic Hans Keller (1919-85) and a board member of the Cosman Keller Art and Music Trust. He currently works in three fields: composition theory and musical analysis (for a bibliography see 'Poetics of Music' under Research); the emigré contribution to post-1945 music in London (see 'Hans Keller Archive' under Research); and 19th- and 20th-century opera (through articles, reviews and popular writings).
