Returning second and third year students wishing to make changes to their existing module choices should complete the module change request form. The final deadline for module changes in Semester 1 is 5 October 2018. The deadline for Semester 2 changes is 18 January 2019.
Re-allocations will only be made where places are available and no waiting lists will be kept. It is your responsibility to ensure that module changes do not cause clashes in your timetable.
Selecting modules for the next academic year
First year BA students will be invited to register for modules through Student Records from August.
Second and third year BA students will submit their module preferences in April.
Postgraduate students will be invited to register for modules via email from August.
Confirmation of modules
Once the Department has given final confirmation of your list of modules, you will register for them online, following the instructions provided by the Registry Services. You must check your module choices very carefully to ensure you are registered on the correct modules. There will be an opportunity to change some module choices in September, but you will only be able to join a module which has places available.
Study outside of the Department
It is possible for BMus students to take the following modules outside of the Department instead of Music Department modules:
• Modules in other King’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities departments, including the Modern Language Centre. MLC units allow students to study a language from scratch at levels 4 and 5.
• Some music modules at SOAS (the School of Oriental and African Studies) excluding performance modules, with the agreement of SOAS liaison Dr Katherine Schofield.
• Elective modules at the Royal Academy of Music
In each year you can take up to 30 credits outside the Department.
In the case of all modules taken outside the Department, you should check with your personal tutor to see that your selected module makes sense for your overall programme of study before enrolling.
Please note that most Royal Academy modules, although valued at 15 credits, last all year and not just one semester. All Royal Academy and SOAS modules are level 5.
