Support for disabled students
The Faculty is committed to ensuring that all students have as equitable an academic experience whilst studying as possible and endeavours to work with disabled students to support them during their time in the Faculty.
Responsibility for ensuring that disabled students receive appropriate support from the Faculty and the College rests with both staff and students and the sections below list these for clarity:
- To declare a disability, either prior to arrival, on arrival at the College or when a disability emerges. If the College and the Faculty do not know that a student is disabled it is impossible to make reasonable adjustments and offer an added level of support.
- To seek support from the Disability Support Team. The team provides confidential information, advice and guidance to students about disability support available at King’s and works with students to produce King's Inclusion Plans (KIP) (formerly known as Student Support Agreements) that set out recommended support strategies (including reasonable adjustments) required to support students in their studies.
- To proactively engage with personal tutors, teaching staff and professional services staff to ensure that protocols are put in place for reasonable adjustments.
- To apply for Personalised Assessment Arrangements (PAA) (covering exams arrangements and coursework cover notes for specific learning difficulties) by the deadlines set by the Examinations Office. It is important to note that having a KIP does not cover Personalised Assessment Arrangements (PAA). This is a separate process and it is the responsibility of students to apply and to liaise with departmental staff in relation to in class tests. Please see below for further details:
- To work with students to implement the recommended support strategies upon receipt of a King's Inclusion Plan from the Disability Support Team.
- To ensure that all relevant staff are made aware of support arrangements and reasonable adjustments (unless students have specifically requested that this information is not shared).
- To signpost students to the support available to them through the Disability Support Team and other College services, i.e. Counselling and Mental Health Support.
- To engage with students to review their progress and provide advice in cases where they are not progressing as planned. An example would be a personal tutor contacting the Assessment Sub-Board Chair for advice on deferral of examinations, or a personal tutor discussing with a student the possibility of interrupting studies.
- To work with students returning from a break from study (known as interruption of studies) to agree how the return to study will be managed, their progress monitored and the support offered.

Personal tutors should be the first port of call for students who have a disability or believe that they may have a disability.
Personalised Assessment Arrangements
The purpose of Personalised Assessment Arrangements (PAA) is to provide an environment that gives all students an equal opportunity for assessment.
All applications for Personalised Assessment Arrangements require specific supporting evidence. Further information, application forms and a full list of PAA deadlines can be found on the Examinations office web pages.
Students are responsible for submitting their personalised examination provisions application, however the Disability Support Team can provide support and guidance.
