The Centre for Philosophy and the Visual Arts (CPVA) is a major multi-disciplinary initiative based at King’s College London. Its aim is to bring together academics, artists, curators and gallerists to explore the connections between philosophy, theory and the visual arts. The current Directors of the Centre are Harald den Breejen and Dr. Sacha Golob.


ancient commentators project

Begun in 1987, the Ancient Commentators on Aristotle project at King's has been described by The Times as 'a massive scholarly endeavour of the highest importance'.



Led by Profesor Peter Adamson, this Leverhulme trust funded research project into natural philosophy in the Islamic world.


philosophy and medicine

Can pain be measured objectively? What is good evidence? Medics and philosophers sometimes ask the same questions. Using our different perspectives and tools we run a colloquium, essay contest, annual lecture, workshops, and a reading group. Led by Professor Sherri Roush. See

The Department of Philosophy at King's College London is a lively research environment, with many active research seminars and student-run reading groups happening every week during term time.
