Marking Criteria

Generic marking criteria for undergraduate and taught postgraduate modules in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities can be found on the marking criteria for assessment page.

Certain modules may have components of assessment with specific marking criteria. If specific marking criteria are employed for any of your assessments you will be able to find them in the KEATS module area.

Style guide - formatting requirements

All summative coursework must be submitted with a Faculty of Arts & Humanities coversheet, fully and correctly filled out.

Over and above this, we ask that you think of your examiners and ensure that your work is presented neatly and clearly.

To that end, we recommend formatting your work as follows:

  • Font size to be no smaller than 11
  • 1.5 space
  • Times New Roman, Arial or Calibri, or another suitably 'ordinary' font

Style guide - referencing

The Department attaches great importance to its students acquiring the skills needed to present academic work properly and with appropriate annotation.

Information on all the referencing systems in use by the departments in the Faculty is available in the Faculty Handbook.

While not a formal requirement, the Department of Philosophy endorses the Chicago Manual of Style as our house style. We recommend that students adopt this method of referencing and bibliography. If you are in any doubt, or require guidance on the correct presentation of citations, please consult your teaching and/or personal tutor.

Other departments may have their own formatting requirements that differ from ours. Please be mindful to check this with them.
