Advanced research seminar

Details

Time Wednesdays during term-time, 16.30-18.00

Location Lecture Room 405, Philosophy Building

Convenor Prof David Owens

Description

The Advanced research seminar is mandatory for all second-to-nth year MPhilStud, MPhil/PhD and PhD research students in the Department.

Students take it in turns to present papers on their current research, either work that will be presented for MPhilStud essays, portions of their PhD theses, or papers in preparation for conference and journal submissions.

The group's function is to give research students the chance to practice presenting their ideas to an informed, though perhaps not expert, audience (an essential skill for those pursuing an academic career). Given the range of research student interests and projects in the Department, the seminar also plays the vital role of giving our research students an awareness of philosophical topics not necessarily directly related to their own research project; we believe this to be an essential component of a good philosophical education.

Afterwards from 18.00, the discussion continues in the King's College London Sports & Social bar (a.k.a. The Philosophy Bar), Philosophy Building.
