Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES)

PRES2The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) is a biannual survey run via the Higher Education Academy (HEA) independently of King's. The PRES has been designed to help universities enhance the experiences of postgraduate research students by collecting and acting upon feedback from current students.

It takes just 5 minutes to complete and all results are anonymous. You’ll be contacted via email to complete the survey.

Why is it important?

The results are carefully considered by your department and the rest of the university to identify areas where improvements could be made and efforts targeted to further enhance postgraduate degree programmes. Results of the survey are used to inform sector bodies and policy makers about the experiences students can expect across the country.

How do I take part?

The next date of the survey will be advertised shortly. You'll be contacted via email with a link to complete the survey.

Responding to Results

Highlights of 2013 results from Arts & Humanities students include:

  • 96% agreed their supervisor had the skills and subject knowledge to support students' research
  • 89% agreed that their research skills and techniques had developed during their programme
  • 79% agreed that their department provides a good seminar programme

In response to comments and feedback from students in the 2013 survey results, the Faculty and College have taken forward a number of initiatives:

  • Discussions are ongoing with the Director of Library Services about expanding and improving the workspace available to doctoral students in the Maughan library.
  • We've also invested in better workspace for doctoral students in the Virginia Woolf Building (7th Floor) and the Strand Building (7th Floor).
  • The College is now providing more workspace for Arts & Humanities doctoral students in the new Kingsway building.
  • The Faculty invests over £40,000 in supporting PGR events and research through our Small Grant's for Research Students scheme.
