We are very sad to announce the death of Professor Geoffrey Hanks on Thursday 27 June 2013. Prof Hanks was one of the pioneers of Palliative Care, and the first chair in Palliative Medicine, based initially at St Thomas’s Hospital, London. He did much to further the research base in the specialty, especially with his seminal work on pain control. In Europe he helped to foster the European Association for Palliative Care. He was a mentor and friend to many and will be much missed.
