Health Education South London - Transforming End of Life Care

Cicely Saunders Institute is delighted to announce that in May 2014 a group of researchers and clinicians from King’s Health Partners (KHP) won a competitive grant from Health Education South London (HESL) to expand, evaluate and conduct research to inform its training on end of life care for non-specialists in palliative care.

The Transforming End of Life Care project, led by Dr Lucy Selman, Cicely Saunders International Faculty Scholar from CSI, and Vicky Robinson, Palliative Care Nurse Consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, aims to improve the quality of patient and family care in advanced disease through: (1) further developing, refining, and evaluating our evidence-based training programme in compassionate care and communication skills, and (2) building capacity in our specialist workforce to deliver the training and maintain staff competences consistently across KHP and our community partners. We hope this work will contribute towards national efforts to improve care for those with incurable, progressive disease, older people and those at the end of life and support NHS staff through education and training.
