Success at regional NHS leadership awards
Dr Fliss Murtagh, Reader and Consultant in Palliative Medicine at the Cicely Saunders Institute, was the joint winner of the NHS London Leadership Recognition award for outstanding collaborative leadership. She was nominated by St Christopher’s Hospice for her work leading a collaborative project to measure the impact of palliative care for patients nearing the end of life and their families.
The judging panel said: “Fliss is an inspirational yet unassuming leader, who has demonstrated a real impact on patients and carers through her collaborative leadership project to deliver outcome measures for palliative care. She has real passion and commitment to engaging staff, patients and carers in delivering the best care to people at the end of their lives.”
She now goes forward to the National NHS Leadership Recognition Awards.
Dr Murtagh said: “We have been working hard to introduce person-centred outcome measures into palliative care, measuring what really matters for people with advanced illness and their families, and striving to make a positive difference. I am both surprised and pleased to receive this award, on behalf of everyone - both locally and nationally - who has been part of the collaboration with me to achieve this. Together we have made a lot of progress, and I'm delighted to be a part of this work, and for it to be recognised in this way."
