Measuring the difference for patients and families

The Cicely Saunders Institute hosted an outcome measurement in palliative care conference on 6 July with over 100 delegates in attendance. A range of international speakers presented at the conference, including work from Canada by Dr Deborah Dudgeon, work from the US by Dr Eduardo Bruera, work from Belgium by Professor Luc Deliens and work from Germany by Professor Claudia Bausewein.
As well as examining international perspectives on outcome measurement and quality indicators, staff from the Institute presented on research and work they are doing in the UK and further afield. Dr Richard Harding presented on his outcome measurement work in children and young people populations, particularly in Africa and how this research and clinical experience can be utilised in the UK. Clinical examples were also demonstrated with work from the OACC project presented on by Dr Fliss Murtagh, and quality improvement facilitators Susanne de Wolf-Linder and Marsha Dawkins.
Delegates came from a variety of palliative care backgrounds and countries including Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Taiwan, Canada and Australia. All talks from the conference will be available to watch for free on our YouTube channel shortly.
