Cicely Saunders Institute success at EAPC 2015, Copenhagen
The Institute had a very successful trip to Copenhagen for the 14th World Congress for the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC) earlier in May 2015.
With Director of the Institute, Professor Irene Higginson, as co-chair of the Scientific committee for the congress and department manager, Ms Fiona Wong as congress coordinator, the Institute played a significant part in the Congress’ organisation. At the congress itself 14 members of staff from both clinical and research backgrounds were invited to give oral presentations of their work, including one plenary given by PhD student Christina Ramsenthaler entitled 'The Myeloma Patient Outcome Scale (MyPOS) – Longitudinal Validity and Reliability of a Measure of Quality of Life for Clinical Use in Patients with Multiple Myeloma'.
In addition to staff giving oral presentations of their research, 24 different posters were accepted for presentation from both clinical and research staff from the Institute. With delegates in attendance from around the globe, the congress provided an excellent opportunity to disseminate the research and educational courses provided by the Institute, with delegates from thirty different countries signing up to the Institute’s mailing lists and YouTube channel. Representatives of the department also hosted drop-in sessions at the Institute’s stand on different topics including the IPOS and other members of the POS family, MSc and PhD opportunities, e-learning development and the OACC project resource packs.
It was a great opportunity to see past colleagues and alumni and the Department look forward to next year’s conference which is due to take place from 9-11 June in Dublin, Ireland.
